Elementary School Principal

Accountable to: Head Master


Position description:  This full time administrative/teaching position is dedicated to ensuring the elementary school is a Christ-centered school providing superior spiritual and academic training.  The elementary school principal, working with the head master, will provide the spiritual and academic vision of the elementary school. The elementary school principal, working with the head master, is responsible for implementing all programs and policies necessary for the spiritual and academic edification of the student body; the elementary school principal, working with the head master, is furthermore responsible for assessing the effectiveness of all such programs and policies.  The elementary school principal, working with the head master, will oversee and be responsible for all areas relating to students and families, staff members and instruction.  The elementary school principal is called upon to shepherd staff members in their educational ministry and to guide students’ spiritual and academic progress.  The elementary school principal is also called to help establish a Christ-centered environment, provide students, families, and staff with an example of Christian love toward God and others.

Duties and responsibilities:
1.    Conduct teacher evaluations – 4 annually per teacher.
2.    Approve all Classroom at a Glance binders.
3.    Oversee teacher lesson plans/sub folders.
4.    Approve all videos, parties and field trips.
5.    Serve on Administrative team.
6.    Assist in enrollment/withdrawal issues.
7.    Lead Elementary staff meetings.
8.    IEP writing.
9.    Write/Maintain behavioral contracts.
10.    Coordinate curriculum from Elementary to Middle School.
11.    Coordinate discipline between Elementary to Middle School.
12.    Plan and implement in-service/outservices.
13.    Oversee specials staff.
14.    Approve days off.
15.    SAT training/assistance.
16.    Supervise elementary teachers/educational assistants/aids.
17.    Develop/outline all curricula including scope and sequence for elementary school with approval from Headmaster.
18.    Review and select all elementary school curricula with approval of Head Master.
19.    Work with Lead Teachers to routinely update, improve, and expand daily lesson plans, projects, assessments, and curricula.
20.    Work with Headmaster to observe, evaluate, and guide Lead Teachers.
21.    Work with Lead Teachers to review and analyze standardized tests for each department.
22.    Work with Lead Teachers to review and analyze individual student performance as part of routine assessment of department and department teachers.
23.    Work with Lead Teachers and Head Master to recommend summer research and teaching resources to include instructional methods, resource and curriculum improvement/enrichment, and faculty professional growth and development.
24.    Provide last line in discipline issues before they are sent to the Headmaster.
25.    Provide last line in parent complaints/issues before they are sent on to the Headmaster.
26.    Interview all families applying for admission to the elementary school.
27.    Take part in all decisions regarding admissions to the elementary school.
28.    Work with Headmaster and hiring committee in the interviewing and hiring of all new elementary school staff members.
29.    Work with Headmaster and Middle School Principal in creating all academic requirements regarding graduation and/or promotion.
30.    Establish program of professional growth.
31.    Provide timely communication to students/parents
32.    Work with existing staff to ensure consistent school wide behavior based on principles of With all Due Respect.
33.    Responsible for Elementary Chapels/Spiritual Development.
34.    Maintain neat and clutter-free classroom.
35.    Work to maintain ACSI certification.
36.    Maintain professional attitude and appearance.


Essential skills/abilities: 
•    Master’s degree in either education or administration.
•    At least 3 years experience (in either teaching and/or administration) in Christian schools. 
•    Be a visionary able to assess the school’s strengths and weaknesses and then develop a plan to improve the school’s ability to provide superior spiritual and academic training to all students.
•    Be a gifted communicator, able to create and maintain effective lines of communication with Headmaster, staff, families and students.
•    Be able to listen to and learn from others.

Spiritual Qualifications:
The elementary school principal must have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior and believe the Bible is the Word of God. The elementary school principal shall be a member in good standing at a Bible believing church. The elementary school principal shall possess the spiritual maturity to guide the school in a Godly manner and provide a Christ-centered environment where all people experience Christ’s redeeming love.
