PRIMETIMERS - SOUTHEAST SENIOR ADULT MINISTRY
The Senior Adult Ministry of Southeast Christian Church exists for the purpose of reaching out, building up and sending out seniors by ministering to the needs of all Senior Adults within our church, those unchurched, as well as the spiritually lost in our community.
America's youthful face is changing! Consider these statistics:
- Today nearly 67 million Americans are over the age of fifty.
- By 2040; the last baby boomers reach retirement age, 25 percent of the American population will be over sixty-five.
- Life expectancy recently climbed to seventy-five years of age.
- Two-thirds of all persons sixty-five or older who have ever lived are alive today!
- American seniors now outnumber the entire population of Canada.
- In 1960, those 60 years old and over numbered 250 million (8.2 percent of the total population), and by 1980, the number had increased to 376 million (8.5 percent of the total).
- In the year 2000 those 60 and over numbered 600 million (almost 10% of the total) Projections indicate that those 60 and over will number 950 million by 2020 (12.5 percent of the total).
Senior adults with your experiences and expertise, offer this congregation incredible resources. We encourage you to be totally involved in the local church ministry.
Some of the most special people you will find anywhere. I’m referring to the 55 Senior Adults here at Southeast Christian Church.
The Senior Adult Ministry at Southeast Christian Church is an active one, with Senior Adults from age 55 and up who are involved each week in many ministries and service throughout the church
We wish to provide a variety of programs and ministry opportunities for seniors, all designed with the purpose of meeting the various needs for today’s seniors, as well as reaching them for Christ.
Here at Southeast we see our Seniors as active and motivated to make a difference for God in our church, community and throughout the world.

For the Ladies
IT’S NOT TOO LATE to join the Wednesday morning Women’s Bible Study, as we learn from Elijah about living in an insecure world. This class meets in K-Station, (upstairs at the very south end of the building) at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday morning. Study books are available at Elements Bookstore. And, to enjoy further fellowship, join us as we go out to lunch after the study time! Please just “show up” or, if you need more information, contact our leader, Jane Osborn, at 303-693-5665.
Service Opportunity
For a morning of fellowship and service, join the group of women here at the church on the second Friday of every month, making blankets to be given to Alternatives Pregnancy Center. For more information, please call Dulcie Dewey at 303.771.3593. No sewing skills needed!
Ministry Opportunities
A variety of ministry opportunities are available for seniors here at Southeast. Our seniors lead the way when it comes to volunteering for programs, events, mentoring and more. They are the “heartbeat” of the ministry. Our seniors visit in the hospital; they visit those of all ages who cannot physically attend church and Adult Bible Classes. They write notes to those who need encouragement. They help provide meals for those in need. They pray in our various Prayer ministry opportunities. They serve as greeters, serve of Communion, and receive offering.
Sunday Adult Bible Classes
Class at 9:30 am: Encouragers - a class for women
Classes at 10:45 am: Second Mile, Discovery, & Old Testament.
Come and join us – there is a class for you!
Missions
There are plenty of mission opportunities in our state, the US and internationally. Our seniors can get involved in these missions in all kinds of ways. From short-term mission trips, serving in SECOR, to serving at the City Mission and many more. Check at the Missions Wall in the lobby for more information.
I hope you can see that Southeast Christian Church needs the experience and wisdom of mature adults. My hope is to sound an alarm, arousing our awareness of the great opportunity for mature adult ministry.
