Girls Ministry: Parents Info

Hey Parents!

Have you ever looked at a tapestry?  On the underside it’s full of loose ends and knots.  It’s not very special infact the whole thing looks like a big accident.  But when you turn it over you begin to see the beautiful patterns and intricate details emerge.  You realize you are looking at a beautiful piece of art.

I think sometimes our girls see themselves as the underside of the tapestry.  Our goal in the Girl’s Ministry is to help your daughter see herself through the eyes of God.   Here are a few events and conferences you should know about to help your daughter get connected.

Parents, IMPORTANT INFORMATION for the Upcoming

                                        Middle School Live Pure Retreat

    • What to Bring:  Sleeping Bag or warm bedding, pillow, towels and washcloths, (We are not staying in a hotel, camp provides bed and bathroom facilities, that’s it) Warm clothing including a coat (we will be outside at night) boots or tennis shoes, (we will do some hiking) comfortable clothing, and anything she would need for a sleepover.  She will need a BIBLE we will provide a workbook and pens.  Please send a WATER BOTTLE with her.

    • Do not Bring:  MP3 Players or I-Pods, Money (she won’t have a place to spend it) Food.  There are bears where we will be and from what I understand they really love junk food.  We will be purchasing lots of snacks and goodies for the girls and keeping it in a safe place.  If your daughter has a dietary need please contact me and we can work something out.

    • Cell phones, I-pods and MP3s:  If your daughter has a cell phone, she will be asked to turn it off during the lesson and discussion times.  If she uses it after we have asked her to turn it off, we will lovingly hang on to it for her til the end of the retreat.  All MP3s and I-pods are not allowed and will also be confiscated if we see them.  We don’t do this to be mean but we want your daughter to get the most out of these retreats as possible and if she is texting friends at home or listening to her i-pod she won’t be getting much from the retreat.

    • DEPARTURE TIME:  We will leave the church at 4:30 sharp on Friday Jan 15th.  If you arrive after 4:30 you will be responsible for getting your daughter to the retreat center.  I have attached directions for you in case that happens.

    • Parent Meeting Sunday Jan 17th  at 10:30 in room 213.   The girls will arrive back to the church at 11:30 however there will be a very important meeting for you at 10:30.  At this meeting we will discuss some of the things your daughter learned at the retreat so you can continue to discuss these things at home.   Also there is a time during the retreat in which we sit down with the girls to talk about communication with their parents.  As you and I both know communication is so important to the Parent/Student relationship and we want to help you in any way we can.  We will share what your students said during this meeting. Trust me, as a parent of a Middle School girl, this is valuable information you won’t want to miss out on.  Hope to see you there.

    • Bracelets:  Purity Bracelets are available for purchase.  Bracelets are $10, Charms are $5.  We will have those available at the parent meeting.  There is a different charm for each retreat.  So when she graduates she could have a different charm for each retreat she attended.

    • Letter:  We ask that all the parents write a letter to their daughter.  This will be given to her at the retreat.  This means so much to the girls.  We often see happy tears.  Just encourage her. Tell her how much she means to you and how valuable she is.  Point out her strengths.  Let her know that you might not always see eye to eye, but you will always love her.  She needs to hear this from you.

    • In case of emergency please email me.  I receive my emails on my phone and will get back to you promptly. My email is johanna.spille@sechristian.org

    • What you can do for your daughter this weekend. PRAY for her.  Pray God will open her eyes and touch her heart this weekend.  That he will help her to see just how valuable she is to him.  Also pray for her relationships to be strengthened.   Pray for her d-group leaders and teachers that God will pour out his wisdom on us as we teach her.
