For you, what does it mean to encounter God?  This may seem like an intimidating question.  One dictionary defines encounter as "to meet with."  For many, the idea of meeting with God is scary, maybe difficult to imagine; something that is mysterious or out of touch for the average person.  However, an amazing characteristic of God is that He is intensely personal and He wants each person to experience Him and know Him.  The truth is that each and every day, God wants us to encounter Him.

So how do we encounter God?  Like Moses, we must interrupt our schedule, turn aside, and open ourselves to His presence.  His presence is always with us, but many times we are unaware of Him or how He is working in our life.  To encounter God, as in any relationship, we must spend time with Him and communicate with Him.  We do this by engaging in practices that create space for us to listen to Him, focus upon Him, and respond to Him.  Through the 'Encounter' series, we will look at how we encounter God through the Bible, prayer, community, and fasting.  These are not the only ways that we can experience God, but these are key to building a relationship with God.  These practices allow us to place ourselves before God so that we can encounter Him.  These practices are not an end in themselves, but a means to experience God's grace in our life.

Though it has only been 3 days
since I began my commitment to spend time daily meeting with God I have seen that there is also an enemy that would want to keep me from having a deeper relationship with Christ.  I would like to encourage others to not let Satan win and allow him to put things in the way to discourage us from spending time with God. I know, and so does Satan, that God wants to use this time to strengthen my relationship with Him. He wants to move in ways I never imagined and I want to give Him my first so that He can show that He is a more than enough God.

Over the past few months, my boss has made many changes effecting myself and co-workers, causing much stress and conflict within our team.  Instead of looking to God for conflict resolution, I just figured I could handle it on my own....I didn't want to bother him about this issue because I should be thankful for this job and not complain.

I woke up this morning all flustered about the job and said to God, "I have had enough...I don't like how this is going...let's do it your way."  So, I began working though the Enounter series daily readings.  I asked God to speak to me as I read his word, reenergize my faith, and take my burdens and deal with them.  Well, no sooner than finishing the daily readings and reflecting upon the scriptures, my phone rings.  It was someone from work I left a message with three days ago...with resolution to some of the issues we had been working on.  Coincidence?  I think not.

What an amazing and powerful God we have!  His timing is always perfect.  Today God reminded me who is really in control and who is the best at everything He does.  No matter how small or insignificant our problems may seem, God is eagerly waiting for us to give our everything to him!

The first seven days has been great doing this study. I do feel closer to God and am looking forward to increasing my encounters with our Awesome Lord through study of his word and through prayer. I have felt his presence more each day!
