Thanksgiving

It’s Thanksgiving time again. Time to stuff ourselves with too much turkey, stuffing, and cobbler, watch football all day, hang out with the in-laws, begin planning our attack on  the busiest shopping day of the year.

Sound familiar? What’s your Thanksgiving tradition? Do you have a tradition? Does it include giving thanks?

With today’s fast-paced world, hectic schedules, overworked parents, and overscheduled kids, it’s easy to get caught up with the craziness that the holiday season can bring. It’s easy to go about our days, even special days like Thanksgiving, without giving thanks for the many blessings God has bestowed upon each and every one of us.

Make this year the start of “new” family traditions. Gather around the table for the feast but first, take a moment to give thanks. Say it out loud. Share your thankfulness. It’s surprising to hear the conversations that can start from just one person giving thanks out loud for one small blessing.

Make this the year that you truly give thanks to God what matters most in life. After all, everything comes from Him. (Exodus 15:22-17:7)

Thanksgiving — giving thanks — it’s definitely more than turkey, more than football, more than holiday sales.

Tell us. We want to hear what you’ll be giving thanks for this Thanksgiving. Are you thankful for all the little things in life, like the comforts of home, the love of your family, the blessing of true friendship? Does your Thanksgiving run much deeper? What is it that you’re thankful for?

Southeast will publish your responses here, forum-style, for everyone to see. It’s sort of like gathering around our table here at Southeast.  Names are not required.  It's up to you if you'd like to include your name in your post.  Thanks for your thanksgivings!

I'm Thankful For...

my family,my friends, a great church that lifts up the Lord in our community, a Great God who loves us and watches over us.....

I'm thankful for God giving the only gift I could never wrap for my husband and children, eternal life.  No matter what troubles come their way I know they are protected by the most powerful warrior.

Thank you, God, for your incredible love evidenced in the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.  It amazes me that you passionately pursue a relationship with man and long for us to come to know you through Jesus. Thank you, Jesus, for your grace, mercy, and faithfulness to me and for the acceptance that comes with being your beloved.  I am eternally grateful to you, Jesus, for redeeming my life from the pit and providing me with new life. I praise you Lord, that you are the lover of my soul, my redeemer, savior and friend.

We are thankful for the church body to help and support us. Jesus said there would be difficulties in this world and we have experienced the true meaning of Christian fellowship these past few years; their unconditional love, their continual prayers, their emotional support and their encouragement.

ahh...thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. best food of the year, and always with family. I'm thankful for my son (first child, 9 months old). my beautiful wife who loves and encourages me. my God who loves me, provides for me, and challenges me constantly.

God has blessed my grief, regret, and business. When my Grandpa died, I regretted not capturing his stories. God took that sorrow, and turned it into a passion to help others pass on their stories. I started my business, but it was stagnant. I had given my life to God, but realized I was keeping my business to myself. I asked God to be the CEO of my business; I would be happy with wherever he took it. Suddenly, my business began to flourish. I'm thankful for God's use of my grief and regret, and teaching me to trust Him.

I'm thankful for His salvation, mercy and grace.  I'm thankful for the men, women and children at Southeast and the fellowship we have found with our new family/friends.  I'm thankful to have been blessed with a wonderful husband and beautiful son.  I'm thankful for all the blessings that the Lord has presented to us this year and eagerly awaiting what he will present before us in the next year.

First, I am so Thankful for the gift of salvation that Jesus provided for me and my family. The peace in knowing my husband and kids are eternally safe. God has been so good to me, and life has been full of many blessings. Thanksgiving is waking up every morning, having air to breathe, and being able to walk, hear, see, speak and laugh. I am Thankful for my friend Lily, who led me to the Lord. Thankful for my church home and friendship group.
Blessings and Love,
Cathy Dodge
